Update: sprained ankle

It's now two weeks since I injured my right ankle. The coming 10 days will be telling us much more on how bad this injury is. Personally I suspect it to be worse then what I first thought it to be. Let me explain this. The first week I haven't done anything then observing how the ankle is developing. One week later the foot was still heavily swollen. This was the first signal that this will not be a trivial matter. So I went to see an orthopedic specialized in foot and ankles. Also I went to see other Doctors with equal specialized knowledge. Those where all recommended to me by other athletes. The first recommended measure was to fixate the ankle with a soft cast and allow the swelling to subside. Doctors said that I should avoid putting weight on the foot and using it while walking. But that is clearly a difficult doing. Again, this is my very first running specific injury I'm experiencing and only my second sport related injury in the past 68 years. The first one is already some 50 years back. All of you who where in a similar situation know how that feels.
Two weeks without doing any sport - except once going for a short swim, is a terrible situation. I surely will not accept this state to be lasting for long. I'm going to pressure my doctors to tell me which sport activities they can recommend for now. Personally I would say that swimming and cycling on a stationary bike would be possible. Let's see.
The coming 10 days are going to be busy with MRI, CT scans, Ultrasound and other investigations to determine in depth the extend of damage. The reason on why I insist on such a broad exploration is simple; I need to get back to running asap.
