At the beginning there was an X-ray

Having now the result of the examination we can start looking towards rehabilitation. But first lets look at what those examinations revealed.
Alas, there's only bad news for now; the short story is that I have a broken bone and I shall not put any strain and/or weight on my right ankle for the next 4-8 weeks. This injury is worse than expected.
In our first examination we made an X-ray that showed a damage at the end of the Fibula bone. This required a more detailed view that was provided through an MRI and CT scan.
So here we are with some details. Apology if I mess up medical terms - I'm not a doctor. So we're speaking of my right foot ankle. At the bottom end of the Fibula bone (that's the outside bone of your lower leg) we have that knuckle (well visible when you look at your ankle from the outside). Just below there is the end of that bone. That's a very important part of your foot because we have 3 ligaments connected holding the foot and that fibula bone in the right place and the right stability to your ankle. As we don't have much (or not at all) muscles there, those ligaments are extremely important. The stability is given by their strength and right tensions. If that is broken then your ankle gets loose and literally invites further and probably more severe injuries. As a runner you have to make sure those ligaments are well maintained through strength and stability work.
In my case, this end part of the bone is nearly totally broken off. You can see this well on the pictures below taken with an MRI and CT scanner. Healing will take time. But it's the first 4-8 weeks that are extremely important to do it the right way. Which is the right way? Let me writer about it later. For now I have to wear an AirCast.
Well the AirCast has an advantage over a full cast that is fixed to your foot/leg for the whole period of time. I remember as a kid where I knew quite a few other kids having to wear a cast because they broke their bones. Their complaints where mostly; the skin is soooo itching and you can't scratch yourself properly, you can't wash that part of the body having the cast, and you have difficulties sleeping and taking a shower. The AirCast I can remove when at home and when sleeping, I can take a normal shower and make sure all is clean.
I will go through some additional examinations and hope to let you know soon those findings.
Stay tuned and please share this article and Telegram channel among your #runner friends. I will update you on my development.
